Getting Started
How do I become a client?
Contact us by phone at 860-678-0066 or email at contact@ctbackgroundchecks.com during business hours (Monday–Friday, 8:30 AM–4:30 PM). We'll walk you through the agreement and get you set up. Account setup typically takes about one hour after your agreement is complete.
Are there any setup fees or annual fees?
No. Research Services does not charge setup fees or annual fees. You pay only for the searches you order. There are no minimums and no contracts required.
Do you require a contract or minimum order volume?
No contracts and no minimums. Whether you run one background check a year or hundreds per week, the terms are the same. We've worked with small businesses and large organizations alike.
Consent & Reports
Does the applicant need to give consent before I run a background check?
Yes. Under the Fair Credit Reporting Act (FCRA), applicant consent is required before a consumer report can be ordered for employment purposes. We provide consent forms — paper and digital options are available depending on your workflow.
How are results delivered?
Results are delivered through a secure online portal. You can access completed reports at any time. Reports are retained in the portal for six years.
How much does a background check cost?
Pricing varies by search type and state. Contact us for a quote based on the searches you need most. There are no hidden fees or add-ons beyond what you order.
Turnaround & Search Types
How fast do results come back?
Most Connecticut criminal reports are returned same-day. Turnaround for other searches varies by type and geography. Employment and education verifications depend on how quickly the institution responds, but we pursue those persistently — going beyond the standard three-attempt limit.
What does a Connecticut criminal record search cover?
A Connecticut criminal records search covers approximately 35 years of available history from state sources. It is one of the most thorough statewide searches available and is typically completed the same day it's ordered.
What's included in a National Criminal Index search?
Our National Criminal Index search covers records from databases across the country and includes sex offender registry searches and Homeland Security checks. It's a broad sweep — useful for applicants who have lived or worked in multiple states.
Can you run background checks on applicants from other countries?
Yes. We offer international background searches for applicants with history outside the United States. Turnaround and available record types vary by country. Contact us for details on specific countries.
Do you offer employment and education verifications?
Yes. Our verification services cover employment history, education credentials, and professional licenses. We pursue verifications persistently and go beyond the standard three-attempt industry limit to close out reports as completely as possible.
Do you offer drug testing?
Yes. We coordinate drug testing as part of a comprehensive screening package. Government guidance also recommends fingerprinting in certain regulated industries as a supplement to background check reports.
Industry-Specific Questions
Do you work with healthcare employers?
Yes. Healthcare employers have specific screening needs — OIG exclusion checks, professional license verifications, and education verification for clinical roles. We're familiar with the requirements and work with hospitals, home health agencies, and medical practices throughout Connecticut.
Can you screen volunteers or employees of nonprofits?
Yes. We work with nonprofits, churches, youth organizations, and volunteer programs. Background checks for volunteers follow the same FCRA consent process as employment checks.
Do you offer annual rescreening for existing employees?
Yes. Many of our clients run annual rescreens on their existing workforce — particularly in transportation, healthcare, and education. We can coordinate recurring screening on a schedule that fits your HR cycle.
Accounts & Compliance
Will I have a dedicated account representative?
Yes. We assign a dedicated representative to each client account. You'll have a direct line to someone who knows your account — not a general support queue. You can reach us at 860-295-4045 or 860-678-0066.
Is Research Services PBSA-accredited?
Yes. Research Services is a PBSA-accredited background screening provider — independently audited across six areas including consumer protection, legal compliance, and product standards. Accreditation is earned, not self-declared.
What do I need to do when a background check comes back with a record?
If you plan to take adverse action based on the result, federal law under the FCRA requires a two-step process — a pre-adverse notice followed by a waiting period and then a final adverse action letter. See our Adverse Action guide for a full explanation and letter templates.
